Discussion:
feature freeze and branching of trunk

Hi all,

I think we have all waited long enough for 0.9.18. I propose that on 1
June 2008 we branch trunk to create the 0.9.18 branch. The first alpha
of the core will be released on the same day.

Once the branching is done no new features can be introduced into the
branch without strong support from the developer community. Such cases
will be rare and require strong cases to support them. Bug fixes and
code cleanups will be allowed - only if they are backported from trunk.
Fixes for bugs by omission are enhancements and will be treated as such.
API functionality changes (behaviour, method signatures and return
types) will also need approval.

I hope that we can move quickly from an alpha to a beta release.

What do people think?

Cheers

Dave

Idem, could be cooler if the branch was named 1.0.

Just to recall some discussions we had in november 2006 in Paris.

Just kidding.

Just kidding.
All changes to the 18 branch will need to be backported from trunk. I
hope that around the time of the 0.9.18.001 release we can branch the
tree for 1.0 :)

btw if you would like me to come to Paris to discuss it again, I am sure
we can come to an arrangement ;)

Cheers

So you will merge in (and fix) the code from the Interlink development?

It depends on our internal constraints, which I don't think are
appropriate to discuss in this forum.

dunno what this code does... if it does cool things a merge will be a
good thing.

my thoughts :

we need to move on : if this merge+fix is not critical for phpgw and is
likely to take a too long time to do we can consider the merge for .19
(or whatever version just after .18)

since egw fork we didn't release anything... worked long and made good
things but nobody can see what have been done.

then let's move and if we can't do all we want for .18 then a part will
be done just after... life will not cease after .18 :)

that's opensource refrain : Release early. Release often. ;)

Hi,

sorry for being late on this issue - I was really busy trying to get
some new contracts enabling me to pay my living costs - which somehow
has a higher priority than timely repsonses to phpGW lists posts...
